DOH prepares mass testing for COVID-19

The DOH-Bicol is preparing for mass testing of suspected coronavirus cases, prioritizing severe and mild patients, front-line personnel, senior citizens, those with co-morbidities, and pregnant women.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the mass testing will be continuous and progressive, targeting around 8,000 to 10,000 tests daily by the end of April.

The DOH has defined guidelines for mass testing, covering severe to critical cases with history of exposure or travel, as well as mild symptomatic individuals from vulnerable populations like the elderly, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

The DOH will procure test kits sufficient for the next three months using funds from the Bayanihan Act, aiming to conduct 3,000 tests daily starting April 14.
