DOH: General public can now get 2nd COVID booster

On Wednesday, the Department of Health announced that the general public in the Philippines is now eligible to receive a second COVID-19 booster shot.

Health experts and officials emphasized the importance of this additional dose to maintain immunity against the virus, especially as vaccine effectiveness wanes over time.

Dr. Rontgene Solante, vice president of the Philippine College of Physicians, stressed that even though the general population faces lower risk of severe illness, they are crucial for maintaining a 'wall of immunity'.

The DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that guidelines for the rollout of second boosters are being finalized and will be released soon.
