DOH: COVID-19 cases may peak by end-January

The Department of Health (DOH) projects that COVID-19 cases in the country could peak by the end of January due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated on Wednesday, January 5, that daily cases are doubling and will likely continue to rise until the end of the month.

On Tuesday, January 4, Vergeire warned during a CNN Philippines interview that while she cannot provide exact numbers, Omicron is estimated to be eight times more transmissible than Delta.
