BIR extends tax filing deadlines due to coronavirus emergency

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended tax filing and payment deadlines due to the national emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Revenue Regulations No. 7-2020, issued under Republic Act 11469 or 'Bayanihan to Heal As One Act', extends the deadline for filing annual income tax returns from April 15 to May 15 and generally pushes other deadlines by 30 days.

The regulations also suspend the statute of limitations on assessment notices, warrants of distraint/levy/garnishment by 60 days post-emergency declaration lifting.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III emphasized that taxpayers should file early if possible to support government efforts against COVID-19.
