Manila Bay clean-up drive held despite ongoing white sand project

On Saturday, Sept. 19, various government agencies and private organizations participated in the International Coastal Cleanup Day at Manila Bay.

The cleanup began early in the morning with personnel from the Bureau of Fire Department, DPWH, DOH, and police joining the activity.

DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu led an inspection along Manila Bay, while Phase 1 of the Manila Bay white sand project was expected to be completed on that day.

Environmentalists had previously criticized the synthetic sand project as artificial rehabilitation and a waste of money.

Despite incomplete progress, the DENR undersecretary assured that the cleanup activity would proceed.
