Landslide death toll reaches 98, nine missing

The death toll from the landslide in Maco, Davao de Oro, has risen to 98 as of Saturday, February 17.

Two bodies were found by responders on Saturday, bringing the total number of missing persons down to nine.

Of the confirmed dead, ten are body parts and at least seven search and retrieval teams continue excavation works in the affected area.

The landslide, which occurred on February 6, has displaced 1,503 families or approximately 5,378 individuals from five villages who are now staying in evacuation sites in Mawab town.

Multiple weather disturbances, including a shear line and northeast monsoon, contributed to the flooding and landslides that have impacted the Davao region since late January.
