De Lima, Diokno: Impeachment trial is civilized, not 'bloodbath'

Representatives-elect Leila De Lima and Chel Diokno have called the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte a civilized legal process that aims to reveal the truth.

Diokno questioned where Duterte's comments about wanting a 'bloodbath' are coming from, emphasizing that the impeachment is a sacred and civilized process focused on presenting evidence and witnesses.

De Lima believes Duterte may be trying to gain sympathy as the trial approaches and stressed that the impeachment proceedings should follow constitutional principles of truth, justice, and accountability.

Both representatives-elect dismissed Duterte's comments suggesting violence during the trial as unnecessary, stressing that it is a political process without room for theatrics or chaos.

Iloilo Rep. Lorenz Defensor, part of the prosecution team, urged both sides to present clear evidence and avoid a bloodbath, emphasizing that it is a constitutional process rather than a judicial one.
