De Lima counters Sara’s 'bloodbath' threat for impeachment trial

Former senator Leila de Lima responded to Vice President Sara Duterte's statement expressing a desire for a 'bloodbath' during her upcoming impeachment trial.

De Lima, who is set to receive a congressional seat as the first nominee of Mamamayang Liberal Partylist, emphasized that the impeachment trial will be a serious affair and not a show of brute force.

She highlighted that in an impeachment trial, only Vice President Sara Duterte is on trial, stating that any drama or chaos would be orchestrated by Duterte's defense team.

De Lima assured that the proceedings will respect Duterte's rights and follow legal procedures without unnecessary theatrics, emphasizing there can be no 'bloodbath'.

Duterte's impeachment trial will begin on July 30, with De Lima participating in the House of Representatives' 11-man prosecution team alongside Chel Diokno from Akbayan.
