DSWD gets PHP5B for AICS to aid typhoon-hit communities

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will receive an additional PHP5 billion for its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

This funding is part of the government's immediate response to support communities affected by recent typhoons and other calamities, with Secretary Amenah Pangandaman emphasizing the severe impact of climate change on the Philippines.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of P5 billion through a Special Allotment Release Order and Notice of Cash Allocation for the AICS program.

The AICS program provides essential support such as medical, burial, transportation, education assistance, and financial aid for urgent needs to individuals and families facing crises.

These additional funds are authorized by special provisions in the 2024 General Appropriations Act concerning the use of unprogrammed appropriations, allowing for sustained disaster recovery efforts.
