DA warns fish retailers against price hikes during Holy Week

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has urged fish retailers not to exploit consumers during Holy Week as Catholics abstain from meat.

With an expected surge in demand for fish and seafood on fasting days, particularly Good Friday, the DA emphasized that prices should remain reasonable.

Assistant Secretary Joycel Panlilio stated that retail fish prices should not exceed a 15 percent increase due to the Lenten season's higher demand and assured consumers of adequate supply.

Panlilio reminded retailers that increased demand should not be used as justification for price hikes, urging them to maintain fair pricing.

Prices for various types of fish in Metro Manila range from PHP140 per kg. for bangus to PHP250 per kg., PHP120 per kg. for tilapia to PHP180 per kg., and PHP180 per kg. to PHP320 per kg. for galunggong.
