DA urges early harvest as Paeng intensifies

On Thursday, the Department of Agriculture (DA) urged farmers and fisherfolk to harvest ahead of Tropical Storm Paeng's landfall.

The DA reported that 70.59% of national standing crops for rice and 26.64% for corn may be affected by Paeng.

Farmers were advised to secure seed reserves, relocate animals to higher ground, and clear drainage in irrigation systems.

Fishermen were told to perform early harvests, secure fishing vessels on higher ground, and avoid sea travel due to rough conditions.

As of Thursday afternoon, PAGASA reported that Paeng was 510 kilometers east of Borongan City with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.

PAGASA warned that a landfall in the eastern coast of Aurora or Quezon is possible on Sunday and advised caution for the Bicol Region.
