DA prepares program to rescue trapped Taal animals

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is preparing a program to rescue animals still trapped within the 14-kilometer danger zone around Taal Volcano.

Due to safety concerns and prohibitions by authorities, animal rescues have been limited, but earlier efforts saved many livestock with help from local government units and other groups.

The DA has also established temporary shelters for rescued livestock in Lipa City to preserve the genetic heritage of these animals.

About 70 animals including carabaos, cattle, horses, and small ruminants are currently housed at the Taal Livestock Care Emergency Operations Center.
