DA: Agri damage from Maymay, Neneng nears P600M

The agriculture sector in Northern Luzon has incurred nearly P600 million in damage from Tropical Depression Maymay and Typhoon Neneng.

As of Friday, October 21, the Department of Agriculture reported PHP583.45 million in losses affecting rice, corn, high-value crops, livestock, poultry, and fisheries.

The storms affected 21,986 hectares of land and resulted in a production loss of 36,872 metric tons, impacting 21,324 farmers and fishers across the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos region, and Cagayan Valley.

Rice production alone accounted for P500.1 million in losses with 35,611 metric tons destroyed.

The damage estimate increased from PHP355.63 million on Wednesday to PHP583.45 million by Friday.
