Filipino Grand Princess crew member dies of COVID-19

A Filipino crew member of the Grand Princess cruise ship in San Francisco Bay died of COVID-19 on April 1.

Consul General Henry Bensurto Jr. expressed condolences and said prayers would be offered for the deceased during an online mass.

The Consulate General will coordinate with US authorities and Carnival Corporation to handle the remains and assist with repatriation of Filipino crew members still onboard.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, 13 Filipino crew members tested positive for COVID-19 and were taken to a care facility for treatment, while 78 others volunteered to remain on board as essential workers.
