Tropical Storm Vicky Causes PHP129.76 Million in Crop Damage

As of Wednesday, December 23, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported that tropical storm Vicky caused PHP129.76 million in crop damage.

The affected regions include Cagayan Valley, Davao, and Caraga, impacting over 16,000 farmers and fisherfolk across 21,008 hectares of farmland.

Rice accounted for the majority of the damage at PHP107.3 million, followed by corn with losses valued at PHP20.8 million.

The DA is providing interventions such as rice and corn seed reserves, drugs and biologics for livestock, and fingerlings and fisheries paraphernalia to aid recovery efforts.

Affected farmers are encouraged to avail of the Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program and indemnification funds from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
