PNP COVID deaths reach 88; top cop warns against self-medication

As of Wednesday, Aug 11, 2021, the death toll among Philippine National Police personnel due to COVID-19 has reached 88.

The latest fatality is a 48-year-old police lieutenant colonel from Oriental Mindoro who died on August 8 after testing positive for the virus on August 7.

This officer had received his first dose of Sinovac vaccine on July 23 but still succumbed to acute respiratory distress syndrome and systemic inflammatory response syndrome due to chronic cardiovascular disease.

On Monday, Aug 9, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar reminded police personnel not to self-medicate if they test positive for COVID-19 following the death of a senior staff sergeant in Northern Metro Manila who died from severe pneumonia caused by the virus.
