Philippines Reports 4,933 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Surpasses 187,000

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,933 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, August 22, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Philippines to 187,249.

Active cases now stand at 61,025 with 91.3% being mild, 6.6% asymptomatic, 0.9% severe, and 1.2% critical.

Total recoveries increased by 436 to 114,921 while the death toll rose by 26 to 2,966.

The majority of new cases were reported in Metro Manila with 2,845 cases followed by Cavite (461), Laguna (288), Rizal (167), and Bulacan (152).

This marks the fifth consecutive day where more than 4,000 cases have been reported.
