6 convicts die of COVID-19 in BuCor facilities

At least six convicts have died from COVID-19 in Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) facilities as of May 27.

A total of 161 inmates have tested positive for the virus, with eight recovering and 99 suspected cases reported.

The majority of confirmed cases are concentrated at New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa (82 cases) and Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong (79 cases).

There are also 33 confirmed cases among BuCor personnel, with three recoveries.

No confirmed cases have been reported in the four other penal farms under BuCor, but there are 19 suspected cases at San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City.
