Comelec plans July-Aug voter reg for Dec elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to conduct another round of voter registration nationwide in July or August this year ahead of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in December.

Comelec chairperson George Garcia announced during a weekly forum that they aim to register around 1 million to 1.2 million new voters over a period of 10 days.

The last voter registration drive took place from February 12 to September 30, 2024, bringing the total number of registered voters to 68,431,965 for the upcoming midterm polls in May.

Garcia explained that new registrants will not be eligible to vote in the October 2025 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections due to time constraints.

He emphasized that voter registration involves additional processes such as Election Registration Board hearings, which require more time than available before the next set of elections.
