Comelec investigates Cayetano for election code violations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division has instructed its Law Department to investigate defeated congressional candidate Lino Edgardo Cayetano for potential violations of the Omnibus Election Code.

Although Cayetano's petition to cancel his certificate of candidacy is now moot due to his election loss, criminal liability remains intact.

The Comelec division referred the case records to the Law Department for preliminary investigation regarding possible material misrepresentation in his COC.

In October 2024, Allen Noromor filed an opposition questioning Cayetano's and his wife Fille’s residency in Pacific Residences, Barangay Ususan, Taguig City.

The Taguig City Regional Trial Court directed the Comelec ERB Taguig City to exclude the couple from the list of official voters after they failed to establish the required residency requirement.
