Comelec dismisses petition to disqualify Sen-elect Tulfo

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) dismissed a petition to disqualify Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo from the May 2025 midterm elections.

Toto Causing and Graft-Free Philippines Foundation Inc. filed the case, citing issues such as Tulfo's alleged conviction of a crime involving moral turpitude and his citizenship status.

The Comelec Second Division dismissed the petition due to procedural failures by the petitioners, including not providing an affidavit of authentication or secretary’s certificate with their Certificate of Candidacy (COC).

Petitioners improperly combined grounds for disqualification and cancellation of candidacy in a single pleading, which is against the rules.

The Comelec ruled that these procedural issues warranted dismissal, rendering other matters raised by petitioners irrelevant.

Tulfo remains qualified for his senatorial seat following this decision.
