Comelec supports postponing BSKE to 2026

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expressed support for postponing the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to 2026, citing benefits in preparing for both the BSKE and midterm polls.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco noted that shifting the BSKE to early 2026 would alleviate pressure on Comelec as it simultaneously prepares for both elections.

Laudiangco also mentioned that extending the registration period beyond 2025 would allow more time for voter registration and qualification, particularly noting a shorter two-week period if the election remains in December 2025.

Camarines Sur Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte filed House Bill 10344 to move the BSKE to October 26, 2026, citing concerns about the shortened two-year term for officials elected in December 2025.

Comelec emphasized the importance of scrutinizing candidate lists and reminded voters to review qualifications before voting.

The poll body also announced plans to expedite case processing through electronic filing methods to ensure a clean list of candidates by ballot printing time.
