Comelec aims to proclaim winning senators this weekend

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) aims to proclaim the winning senators and party-list groups over the weekend, with the earliest proclamation expected either Saturday or Sunday.

Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said in an interview that Comelec hopes to complete the canvassing of the 16 remaining certificates of canvass today, allowing them to proclaim senatorial winners by Saturday afternoon and party-list winners on Monday.

Comelec has processed 159 out of 175 COCs as of Thursday, with three overseas COCs still pending transmission due to technical issues in Moscow, Milan, and Kuwait.

Garcia expressed optimism about completing the canvassing process today, which would mark the fastest proclamation of senatorial winners in Comelec's history.

Sagip Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta previously filed a motion asking Comelec to proclaim the top six senatorial candidates based on partial counts, but Garcia urged candidates to wait for full proclamation.
