Comelec affirms ruling on Bagong Henerasyon, rejects motion

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has affirmed its ruling dismissing a petition for disqualification against the Bagong Henerasyon party-list and its nominees, affirming the earlier decision of the Comelec's 1st Division.

Petitioner Russel Stanley Geronimo’s motion for reconsideration was denied due to lack of new evidence and adherence to procedural rules.

Comelec en banc emphasized that granting reconsideration under these circumstances would undermine their procedural framework and encourage non-compliance.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco stated that if Geronimo does not secure a temporary restraining order from the Supreme Court, the Comelec ruling will become final within five days.

The Clerk of the Commission will then issue necessary documents for proclamation to proceed once the decision is final and executory.

Bagong Henerasyon party-list is entitled to one seat in the 19th Congress after receiving 319,803 votes in recent polls.
