PHP275M damage from Super Typhoon Carina in La Union, Pangasinan

Super Typhoon Carina caused PHP41 million in agricultural damage, PHP17 million in infrastructure damage, and PHP1.96 million in tourism losses in La Union.

In Pangasinan, initial damages amounted to PHP222.5 million for infrastructure and PHP24.5 million on agriculture due to the habagat enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina; District 6 registered the highest infrastructure damage at PHP67 million.

High-value crops, agri-infrastructures, rice, and fisheries were affected across all local government units in La Union, while partial damage to high-value crops reached PHP7.2 million and palay at PHP6 million in Pangasinan.

Tourism suffered from damaged resorts and grape farms in Bauang and Caba towns due to heavy rains in La Union; no casualties were reported but two houses were totally destroyed and six partially wrecked due to strong winds in Pangasinian towns.

As of Monday morning, several towns remained flooded, leading to the suspension of classes for over 12,637 affected families in La Union; medical teams have been deployed to Mangatarem and Bautista upon request from local government units.

The provincial governments provided relief packs to more than 44,000 individuals impacted by the typhoon with support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
