LCT Golden Bella runs aground off Cebu due to Kristine

A cargo vessel, the LCT Golden Bella, ran aground off the coast of Minglanilla town in southern Cebu on Wednesday due to strong winds from Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

The ship was anchoring near the coast of Barangay Calajoan when it was pushed ashore by rough seas and rising tide, breaking two of its anchors.

As of Thursday, the vessel remains 100 meters from shore but continues to move closer due to large waves; divers are conducting an underwater hull inspection to check for damage and prevent potential oil spills.

The Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7) is monitoring the situation with contingencies in place for any leaks, while planning to use a tugboat once high tide arrives to tow the ship away from the area.

No crew members were injured during the grounding, and maritime safety measures are being implemented by the PCG.
