Chinese national arrested for drug trafficking

A Chinese national identified as Lin Guangxiu, 44 years old, was arrested last Tuesday, February 11, while applying for a visa extension at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) headquarters in Manila.

During his visa extension process, BI personnel detected irregularities and coordinated with the Fugitive Search Unit to arrest Lin who is wanted by Interpol under a red notice for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 after being found with approximately 270,000 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride during a drug bust in 2019.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that the Philippines will not be a refuge for criminals and will ensure secure borders.

The bureau said Lin is now detained at the BI facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City while he awaits deportation proceedings.

BI warned foreigners caught attempting to evade Philippine laws will face legal action.
