Bayan Muna files position paper for VP Sara’s impeachment

Bayan Muna chairperson Neri Colmenares has filed a position paper before the Senate, urging immediate convening of an impeachment court for Vice President Sara Duterte.

Colmenares highlighted that there is sufficient legal basis and time to convene as an impeachment court without drafting new rules, emphasizing that only one ground is needed to oust Duterte from her post.

The party-list group submitted its position paper on Wednesday, urging swift action and hoping it will be distributed among the Senate members for their consideration.

In contrast, Duterte's camp filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking to stop the impeachment complaint against her and requesting a temporary restraining order.

Senate President Francis Escudero stated that an impeachment trial cannot legally proceed until there is an ongoing session in the chamber, which will resume on June 2 following the midterm elections.
