BARMM leaders mourn Pope Francis, praise him for peace efforts

Leaders in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) expressed grief over the death of Pope Francis, hailing him as a key figure for global peace efforts and solidarity with Palestinians and the Mindanao peace process.

Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua praised Pope Francis as a 'beacon of hope' and a tireless advocate for peace, justice, and interfaith dialogue, emphasizing his persistent appeals for peace in conflict zones like Palestine.

BARMM Parliament Member Naguib Sinarimbo noted that the late Pope's words and actions resonated with Muslim Filipinos, particularly his support for Palestinians and his 2015 expression of support for the Mindanao peace process.

Sharifa Akeel-Mangudadatu, a former beauty queen from Sultan Kudarat, also offered a personal tribute on social media, emphasizing unity and compassion beyond religious boundaries.

The BARMM government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding Pope Francis's legacy by promoting peace and mutual respect among all residents.
