Igorot boxer Bacyadan eliminated from Paris Olympics

Igorot boxer Hergie Bacyadan was eliminated from the Paris Olympics on Wednesday after losing to China's Li Qian in the round of 16 of the women's 75kg division.

Despite her early aggression and combination shots, Bacyadan ultimately lost via unanimous decision as all five judges scored 30-27 in favor of her opponent, with Li proving too much to handle given her status as a former world champion and defending Asian Games titlist.

Bacyadan admitted that a lack of experience contributed to her defeat but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete at the Olympics and praised her coaches and fellow boxers for their support throughout her journey.

To the Filipino people, Bacyadan vowed to return stronger after promising to fight again for the country in future competitions.

With this loss, Hergie joins Eumir Marcial as the second Filipino boxer to exit the competition, leaving Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Aira Villegas still in contention.
