Philippine airlines seek P8.6B monthly aid

Philippine airlines are seeking P8.6 billion monthly aid from Congress to sustain operations during the COVID-19 travel restrictions.

This amount includes P1.3 billion for wage subsidies, P500 million for fees and charges, and P6.8 billion for working capital.

ACAP Vice Chairman Roberto Lim stated that around 25,000 workers in the domestic aviation industry are affected, with an estimated 500,000 if allied sectors like hospitality and tourism are included.

The expected losses for the Philippine aviation sector this year are projected at $4.9 billion.
