PHP84M given to over 8K stranded OFWs due to virus travel ban

Over 8,400 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by travel bans to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao have received PHP84 million in financial assistance from the government.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), an attached agency of DOLE, reported that as of Monday morning, 8,448 recipients nationwide had been given aid.

Though cash assistance for workers bound for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao has stopped due to lifted travel bans, aid for those going to China continues.

The assistance aims to help stranded OFWs ease their burden and return home during the travel ban amid the coronavirus threat.
