Eala named PSA monthly achiever for March after WTA1000 Miami Open success

Tennis player Alexandra Eala has been named the Philippine Sportswriters Association monthly achiever for March after a remarkable performance at the WTA1000 Miami Open.

The 19-year-old Filipino, ranked No. 140, reached the semifinals and defeated former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys, and five-time grand slam winner Iga Swiatek before losing to Jessica Pegula.

Eala's achievements include becoming the first Filipina in the open era to beat a player in the WTA Top 5 and reaching her career-high No. 75 world ranking, making her the first Filipino woman to break into the top 100.

Other notable achievers recognized by the PSA for March include Rubilen Amit (billiards), Melvin Jerusalem (boxing), Aidric Chan (golf), and TNT (basketball).

Amit won two tournaments in Las Vegas, while Jerusalem successfully defended his WBC world minimum weight belt against Japanese rival Yudai Shigeoka.

Chan dominated the Lexus Challenge in Vietnam's Asian Development Tour, and TNT clinched the Commissioner's Cup title with a dramatic overtime win over Barangay Ginebra.
