Eala gears up for US Open round 2 vs Bucsa after historic win

Philippine tennis player Alex Eala, fresh off her historic comeback victory over World No. 15 Clara Tauson at the US Open on Monday (August 25), is preparing for her second-round match against Spain's Cristina Bucsa.

Ranked 75th globally, Eala faces a tough opponent in Bucsa, who recently defeated American qualifier Claire Liu to advance to the round of 64 with a score of 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday morning.

Eala's victory marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first player from the Philippines to win a singles match at a Grand Slam, highlighting her growing prominence in international tennis.

Reflecting on her unexpected achievement, Eala expressed gratitude and focused on recovery before facing Bucsa, who has been playing in the women's tour since 2015 and broke into the Top 100 in January 2023.
