Typhoon Bising causes P168M agri damage

Typhoon Bising caused PHP168 million in agricultural damage in parts of Bicol and Eastern Visayas as of Thursday.

The affected area includes 4,971 hectares with losses estimated at 9,811 metric tons of crops.

Commodities damaged include rice, corn, vegetables, fruits, livestock, fisheries produce, facilities, and agri-infrastructure.

Early advisories from authorities helped some farmers save their crops before the typhoon hit.

As of Wednesday, the damage estimate was PHP163.36 million with 9,774 metric tons lost across 4,826 hectares affecting 3,353 farmers.

The DA has stockpiled rice and corn seeds for distribution to affected farmers and offers financial assistance through the SURE Loan Program.
