Vice Pres Sara Duterte faces impeachment over threat, AFP boosts security

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has yet to confirm any threats against Vice President Sara Duterte, who previously stated she had tasked someone to 'kill' President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were assassinated.

Despite this, AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Padilla assured that the military will provide full protection for Duterte using all available troops and resources.

Col. Xerxes Trinidad of the AFP public affairs office stated that the military is cooperating with other agencies conducting investigations into Duterte's alleged threat.

Civil society organizations filed an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte before the House of Representatives on Monday, citing her statement as grounds for action.

Duterte and Col. Raymund Lachica, head of her security group, are facing complaints of direct assault, disobedience to authority, and grave coercion following a November 23 incident involving the transfer of OVP chief of staff Zuleika Lopez from one hospital to another.

The AFP announced last Wednesday that it would temporarily replace the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) with new military and police personnel to ensure effective security for Duterte.
