Phil envoy: PH to get 8M Covaxin doses by end May

Philippine Ambassador to India Ramon Bagatsing Jr. announced on Tuesday that about 8 million doses of Covaxin, produced by Bharat Biotech in India, are expected to arrive in the Philippines by the end of May.

The vaccines were procured through a tripartite agreement between Bharat Biotech, local government units, and the private sector.

Each dose costs around USD15 to USD20, making it more affordable compared to other vaccines.

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration has already issued emergency use authorization for Covaxin, with an efficacy rate ranging from 92% to 95%. Bagatsing also mentioned that 30 million doses of Novavax’s vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India will be delivered later this year.
