800 athletes, including 60 foreigners, compete in Philippine Athletics Championships May 1-4

Around 800 athletes, including 60 foreign competitors from six countries, will participate in the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships scheduled for May 1-4 at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

Reli de Leon, special assistant to PATAFA president Terry Capistrano, highlighted that this event serves as a basis for selecting the national team for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand and will feature top under-18 athletes competing for slots to the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain.

National coaches Dario de Rosas and Jeoffrey Chua emphasized that foreign athletes aim to qualify for the World Championships, with many local and international competitors looking forward to setting new records at this prestigious event.

The modern stadium, which hosted the 2019 SEA Games, offers a complete warm-up area for athletes before entering the main venue, ensuring safety during intense summer heat with competition events set from 2 to 9 p.m.

Chua noted that Olympic-level facilities and conditions will enhance performances, making this event more competitive and exciting for both local and international participants.
