PNP arrests 47 fake news peddlers amid COVID-19

As of April 13, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has arrested 47 individuals and filed 24 cases against purveyors of fake news and scammers related to COVID-19.

The arrests were made from March 9 to April 13 by the PNP's Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG).

Those charged face violations under Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code, Section 4c4 (online libel), and Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, also known as the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

The cases include false information spread on social media and illegal selling or hoarding of merchandise.
