4 Luzon dams open gates due to heavy rain

Four major dams in Luzon – Ambuklao, Binga, Magat, and Ipo – have opened gates on Monday morning to release excess water following recent heavy rainfall, according to the latest monitoring report from PAGASA.

Ambuklao Dam has three gates open with a discharge rate of approximately 271.05 cubic meters per second (cms), while Binga Dam has four gates open at an estimated total discharge of 354.68 cms.

Magat Dam had one gate opened, releasing about 611.11 cms despite a slight drop in its reservoir level from the previous day.

Ipo Dam also released water through one gate with a discharge rate of approximately 46.10 cms.

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to bring occasional rains to areas like Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro, potentially leading to floods or landslides.

Authorities remind residents living near downstream river systems to stay alert and heed local advisories as precautionary releases may cause river level rises.
