23 rescued after tourist boat, motor banca collision off Surigao

At least 23 people were rescued after a tourist boat and a motor banca collided off Consuelo, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.

The incident involved 16 passengers from the tourist boat, along with the captains and crew members of both vessels.

One passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), miscommunication on vessel signaling caused the collision.

Coast Guard Sub-Station Cantilan personnel conducted a search and rescue operation after receiving reports of the accident.

The operators of both vessels reportedly reached an agreement and covered the medical expenses of the injured passenger.

The PCG reminded both operators to take precautionary measures before and during voyages to prevent similar incidents in the future.
