BI deports seven foreigners, grants bail to two; 159 test negative for COVID-19

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported seven foreign nationals from its detention facility in Taguig City to decongest the area amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Five Chinese nationals, one Taiwanese individual, and one South Korean were among those deported; two pregnant women received bail instead.

Over 400 foreign detainees are housed at the BI facility, with only 84 tested for COVID-19 due to limited test kits. Seventy-five BI personnel also tested negative.

BI Warden Facility Chief Remiecar Caguiron expects more deportations in the coming weeks and emphasizes health monitoring and sanitation measures within the facility.
