Westmincom builds quarantine facility for Filipinos denied entry to Malaysia

The Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) is building a quarantine facility on Sibakel Island in Basilan to house over 100 Filipinos denied entry to Malaysia due to COVID-19 concerns.

These Filipinos, who arrived from Sabah, Malaysia, were brought to Sibakel Island in Lantawan, Basilan, where they will undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Westmincom troops, assisted by Naval Forces Western Mindanao, have already brought construction materials to Sibakel Island.

The facility is being built in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Westmincom will safeguard the island to ensure the safety and security of the deportees.

The provincial government of Basilan has provided food and other necessities to the stranded Filipinos.
