VP Robredo denies fake news on PPE donations

Vice President Leni Robredo denounced fake news circulating on Facebook that her office stole public donations for personal protective equipment (PPE).

Robredo clarified that all PPE purchases are accounted for and verifiable by recipient hospitals, urging the public to check her office's official page for reports on distributed PPE.

She explained that the OVP's PPE procurement is handled by its partner, Kaya Natin Foundation, which manages cash donations, while initial purchases were funded by a P5.9 million appropriation.

A netizen named Jerome Tan falsely claimed that the OVP collected P21 million in donations but failed to provide PPE, even suggesting the OVP took the money instead of purchasing the gear.

Robredo urged the public to report Tan for spreading fake news and to directly verify with hospitals if they have received PPE donations from her office.

As of Sunday, the OVP had distributed 17,100 PPE sets to 38 hospitals and community centers across various provinces.
