Vico Sotto backs probe on firms linked to Iloilo flood control woes

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto supports the call to investigate construction firms allegedly behind problematic flood control projects in Iloilo City.

Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu reported that nearly P4 billion worth of flood control projects in her city are poorly constructed, unfinished, or missing.

Some of these projects, totaling P570 million, were bagged by companies owned by the Discaya family, political opponents of Mayor Sotto.

According to Mayor Treñas, these specific Discaya-owned projects are either non-functional, have caused flooding, or are practically non-existent.

These firms were among the 15 companies awarded a significant number of flood control contracts nationwide, as revealed in a presidential audit report.

The poor state of these infrastructure projects has contributed to flooding in Iloilo City, which has resulted in fatalities.
