UP-PGH to open COVID-19 referral center on Monday

The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) will open its COVID-19 referral center on Monday, March 30.

This referral center will initially have 130 beds allocated for COVID-19 patients, with the possibility of expansion based on demand.

Dr. Jonas del Rosario, UP-PGH spokesperson, stated that preparations are being finalized for the center's opening.

Along with UP-PGH, the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center and the Lung Center of the Philippines are also designated as exclusive COVID-19 referral hospitals by the Department of Health (DOH).

Del Rosario suggested considering other regional hospitals outside Metro Manila and Luzon as potential referral centers to manage the growing number of cases.

In related news, the DOH is considering the Quezon Institute and the Philippine Red Cross as community quarantine facilities for monitored individuals and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients to help decongest hospitals.
