UP Fighting Maroons stay undefeated, defeat DLSU Green Archers

The UP Fighting Maroons defeated the De La Salle Green Archers, 67-64, to maintain their perfect 6-0 record in the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball tournament.

Gerry Abadiano led UP with 13 points, including the go-ahead jumper with 1:01 left in the game.

UP overcame deficits, tying the game at 63 late in the fourth period after trailing by as much as 12 points at the start of the third quarter, fueled by a 21-0 run in the third quarter.

CJ Cansino secured the win with a game-winning steal at the buzzer, capping off his 7-point, 4-rebound, 2-steal, and 2-block effort.

Malick Diouf had a double-double with 18 rebounds and 10 points for UP, while Michael Phillips had a double-double for La Salle with 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Kevin Quiambao added 14 points.

La Salle, playing without Evan Nelle, slid to a 3-3 record, while UP notched its sixth straight win and nears a first-round sweep.

Despite the victory, UP coach Goldwin Monteverde emphasized the need for continuous improvement and that there is 'no stopping' for the team as they prepare for their next game against defending champion Ateneo, which could secure them a first-round sweep.
