UP Fighting Maroons extend undefeated streak to 5 games

The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons maintained their undefeated streak in the UAAP Season 86 women's basketball tournament with a 73-69 overtime victory against the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), extending their winning streak to five games, their best start since Season 71.

Kaye Pesquera led the Fighting Maroons with 17 points, including four three-pointers, while Louna Ozar contributed 16 points and four steals.

Christie Bariquit chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds, and Nigerian center Favour Onoh added nine points, 17 rebounds, and five blocks.

The game was tied at 63-all in the final period when Ozar hit a basket to force overtime.

In overtime, UP overcame a three-point deficit as Bariquit, Marielle Vingno, and Pesquera scored six straight points for a 69-66 lead before Ozar and Onoh secured the win.

UP coach Paul Ramos expressed happiness with the close game win, highlighting it as an area for improvement and a team effort they hope to maintain.

UST slid to a 3-2 record, with Kent Pastrana leading the Growling Tigresses with 19 points.
