Ulysses causes P104M initial damage to Luzon agriculture

Typhoon Ulysses has caused an initial estimated damage of P104 million to the agriculture sector in Luzon, affecting 2,839 farmers and 17,845 hectares across CAR, Region III, and Region IV-A.

The province of Ilocos Norte alone lost an estimated PHP2.5 million worth of paddy rice in the towns of Bangui and Pagudpud.

The reported volume of production loss is 7,999 metric tons, primarily impacting rice, corn, and high-value crops.

Despite the losses, early weather advisories helped save billions of pesos worth of rice and corn production.

The DA is coordinating with various government agencies and local units to assess the impact and provide necessary interventions and assistance.

Flood risk monitoring and dam water release management are also being coordinated with water management agencies.

Damage to high-value cash crops and fisheries in Ilocos Norte are still being assessed.
