Typhoon Ulysses weakens, leaves 7 dead

Typhoon Ulysses has weakened into a severe tropical storm as it moves away from the Philippines.

As of early Friday, Ulysses was located 415 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales, with maximum sustained winds of 110 kph and gusts of up to 135 kph.

Moderate to heavy with intense rains are expected over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern and eastern mainland Cagayan, eastern Isabela, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Apayao.

Gusty conditions will continue over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, and northern Occidental Mindoro, including Lubang Island.

The typhoon is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning.

Ulysses, with international name Vamco, has left at least 7 people dead and devastated parts of Luzon.
